Tim Keller'The only magic bullet that people are looking to right now is the Alpha program.' says Tim Keller, Senior Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, New York City.

'I would say that if you put the content aside for a second, the Alpha format is definitely a huge improvement and right for our time because there is a process involved instead of just a quick presentation and it’s more communal.'

Keller has identified that evenagelistic events do not sufficiently engage today's post-Christian generation. Instead evangelistic courses, such as Introducing God, give people time to process the gospel over a period of time. This is one of the major strengths of Introducing God.

Most churches want effective evangelism with no effort, no time and no cost.

'Nevertheless, I’ve seen this a million times, when churches try to take the Alpha program or some other magic bullet, they raise the money, they train the people, they roll out the program, but they’re just trying to graft on to the side of their existing ministry an evangelism program hoping that is somehow going to help them win more people, but it won’t work any more. There needs to be a complete transformation of our theology.'

Keller sees that the existing theology is not reaching people. Unlike the content of Alpha (or Christianity Explored), the theology of Introducing God is thoroughly different - based on Biblical Theology, or the Bible's big picture, not discrete doctrines or systematic theology. The content of Introducing God begins with Genesis 1 and finishes at Revelation 22, with Jesus' life, death and resurrection as God's solution to having relationship with Him. Thus guests, who have no knowledge of the Bible gain an overview of the Bible and how the parts relate to the whole.

Other courses (Christianity Explained, Simply Christianity) that just present a gospel, or Jesus' life, need to smuggle in why Jesus was sent to save us from our sins, because God is angry with our sin, and that sin is serious, and that God is great and made us and the world. Introducing God provides the wider context of the whole Bible.

Keller notes that training people is important and the same is true with Introducing God. Because the process and theology is dramatically different, all Christians must thoroughly understand the process before inviting a guest and engaging with them on the course. As such, it is mandatory viewing for Christians to watch the Explanation & Training DVD with Introducing God.

Introducing God does not claim to be the magic bullet, but it is seeing thorough conversions in churches where it is run regularly.
